Sometimes just figuring out where to start is the biggest hurdle that you need to overcome to actually start an active healthy lifestyle. ---I have put together a list of things that have helped me GET STARTED on my health & fitness journey, I hope that you find them helpful as well. =)
***If you have any type of health problems make sure to consult your doctor before beginning a physical activity program. (regardless you should ALWAYS consult a doctor before beginning ANY physical activity program)
Dress for success!
Wear COMFORTABLE, properly fitting foot wear
Wear something that YOU are comfortable in workout in (if you are not comfortable in what you are wearing you will be focusing more on that than your workout itself)
MAKE THE TIME!
Start Slowly and ease your way into your new program don't try to keep up right away. Modify if you need to or tone back the intensity a bit, I know you are excited to get started but rushing into it WILL NOT get you results any faster and you could hurt yourself.
Block out a section of time for your workout MAKE IT NON NEGOTIABLE and exercise at the same time of the day so it becomes a regular part of your new active lifestyle. Find the Balance between life and fitness and pick a time that works best for you.
Try to make it a habit, but be flexible. If you miss an exercise it's not end of world, just work some activity into your day another way (take the stairs instead of elevator, family walk after dinner etc.)
Keep reasonable expectations of yourself
Look for chances to be more active during the day. Walk to pick up your kids from school rather than driving, take a 10-15 walk after you watch a show on TV, take and adventure date rather than dinner and a movie.
DO NOT get discouraged if you don't see the results you are looking for right away, give it time if you are working for it results will come (it took me 4 months to physically see results)
Don't exercise to vigorously right after meals because you will be full and will not be able to give it your 110%
MAKE IT FUN!!!!
Choose an activity or program that is fun and keeps you interested. Add variety that way exercise will never get boring. (that's why I like The 21 Day Fix because it offers that variety in your workout)
Ask family and friends to join you! I always love getting my kids or friends involved in my workouts with me because it makes it more enjoyable and your more likely to stick with it if you have company!
Music or audio books to help get you pumped and keep you entertained! I like to listen to my personal development during my runs it helps keep my mind off how bored I am (I run on my treadmill most of the time and staring at the cement wall can get boring)
TRACK and CELEBRATE YOUR success!
Keep note of your activities in a logbook. Write down distance, rep amount, length of activity and how it went (was it easy? was it hard?) Keeping track will help you see your progress and see where you need to step it up a bit.
REWARD yourself at special milestones WITH NON FOOD ITEMS. Make your milestones reasonable and attainable. For example my first milestone was I needed to loose 10 lbs totally do able and something you can reach relatively quick. I rewarded myself with getting my nails done (something I don't do often)
