What gets YOU motivated? It might be totally different than what gets me motivated but what I do know is that being a wife, mom and full time student is fucking exhausting and most of my reasons to workout is more mental than physical, I workout to keep my sanity. So if you are a crazy busy mom like me who pulls her hair out most days because the husband is being annoying and the kids are being assholes (kidding.....kinda) then these reasons to workout might be for you as well! and if so we should totally besties and workout together! =)
Reason #1 It helps to lift your mood: I find when I am feeling bleh or the kids are driving me crazy I need to step back and lift some weights or go for a run to just let it all out so I can come back and be the mom my kids need/want me to be..... Plus working out releases endorphin's and endorphin's make you happy and happy people don't want to freak out all the time =)
Reason #2 Builds Self Esteem: I dunno about you but I spent a lot of time ripping myself down and did not have a lot of people around to lift me back up. When I workout it helps make me feel better about myself because I am doing something for me, something to better myself, something good.
Reason #3 Increases ENERGY: Seriously have you met my youngest child she freakin bounces off the walls from the time she wakes up to the time she goes to sleep so I DEFIANTLY need as much energy in my life that I can get to keep up with the little firecracker. By working out I increase circulation and strengthen my heart which in turn helps to increase my energy.
Reason #4 Improves learning abilities: Honestly have you ever tried to go back to school at 30, it aint easy! My brain fuckin hurts with all this information being piled into it but by working out before class I found that I actually retained the information a lot better. This came to realization when I decided to take a 8:30am running class my first term (fuck I hated that class way to early to run but I loved the benefits I got for the rest of my classes that day) Check out this link for some more info on how working out helps improve learning, it's really interesting at least I think so =) Click Here
Reason #5 Reduces feelings of depression: For me this is a big one, for someone who suffers silently from depression working out gives me an outlet to work my shit out. Plus like I said before endorphin's baby fuckin endorphin's help to pick me up and out of the funk I am in. Your body is an amazing thing and when you workout it dose amazing things for you, it helps to release all those feel good chemicals in your body and reduces the ones that worsen depression.
Reason #6 Builds confidence: This one goes hand in hand with #2 when I workout I am getting stronger, looking sexier, feeling healthier and when I feel good about myself it really shows in my confidence and how I project that onto my everyday life. I find that when I am sticking to my routine I am also showing my kids about living a healthy and active life and it makes me feel confident in myself and in my parenting.
Reason #7 Reduces Stress: Seriously are you a stress case? I totally am but once again like my depression and anxiety I am very silent about it and keep it in (unhealthy yes I know but that's a whole other problem) but by keeping it in it also magnify's it SO MUCH MORE. Honestly though when you workout your body feels better and then in turn so dose your mind. My yoga teacher taught me that one (Seriously though only thing I learnt in that class, but it was a gooder) So when I am feeling stressed I like to slow things down a bit and do a little yoga to clear my mind and relax. I have some great poses I can show you to reduce stress if you want shoot me a message on my Facebook Page Here I would be glad to help you out!
Reason #8 Improves Sleeping Patterns: OMG any mom would understand this one, kids are so fucking annoying when you are tired and didn't get any sleep..... but you love them so much so you get up with them anyways and run around like a crazy lady just to see the smiles on there faces. I suffer from lack of sleep I have no idea why I don't sleep (probably should go to a doctor, but who's got time for that.) I find that when I workout morning or mid day I sleep like a baby at night because I was productive for the rest of the day after my workout because I had so much energy from my workout ;) *WARNING* If you are anything like me tired hyper don't workout at night it will just give you a bunch of energy to not sleep..... then you will be up at 1 am like me writing this blog post..... or maybe it was the wine hmmm =)
Reason #9 Alleviates Anxiety: Have you had the pleasure to meet me yet? I am the most calm and collected person you will ever meet JUST KIDDING I am totally not, my head is a VERY interesting place for sure. I get really bad anxiety attacks ALL the time now, before starting school they were few and far between but now so many things set me off because I am having to step outside my comfort zone on a regular basis. All the stresses of life, running a house, family and school all compounding together. Talking in public is one of my biggest triggers and school has been challenging that big time (weird one considering the profession I am going into) I find that when I feel an attack coming on I need to take a walk, go for a run or do something active to take my mind off it and get my head straight. The more I stick to my routine and plan ahead my anxiety is not as bad..... P.S Meditation or a good shavasana after a relaxing yoga sesh is a good one for anxiety.
Reason #10 Improve Quality of life: All of the above..... If you get your head straight, your body moving and live healthy you will feel better inside and out thus improving the quality of the life you live. Seriously working out makes me feel so much better about everything and when I feel better I enjoy things so much more..... I am less tired, stressed and feeling trapped that I can really stop and enjoy life, my family, watching my kids grow into beautiful little ladies that they are and I don't want to throat punch my fiance as much =) Kidding! I love that crazy ginger!
